On the beaches of Cavallino is not always allowed access to pet animals. Four areas dedicated to the access of pets have been prearranged along the coast of Cavallino starting from 4 July 2016. The dedicated areas are: Punta Sabbioni from Lungomare Dante Alighieri, Ca’ Savio from Via Retrone, Ca’ Ballarin from Via Berton, Cavallino from Via Tamigi.
The areas are marked on the beach with signs, stakes, and ropes, but they are not closed areas, therefore, the animals must be kept on a leash (maximum length 1.5 metres). The animals cannot go on the dunes or near them. Other rules: you must have a muzzle to be used in case of risk; access prohibited to animals in heat and to aggressive ones, you must immediately collect the faeces, vaccinations and parasiticidal treatments must be up-to- date, sun umbrella and water at the animal’s disposal.
Only in Punta Sabbion: possibility of bathing for the animals in the dedicated and controlled area.
For the access to the beach of accompanied dogs and other pets, you can see the Ordinance 2016: click here.
Many campgrounds on the coast welcome your four-legged friends, setting aside spaces dedicated to them both for walking and playing as well as shady, green places for taking a break. In addition, some campsites have a dedicated stretch of beach and seaside equipped for guests accompanied by their dogs. Among campsites equipped with DOG CAMP: Marina di Venezia *****; Union Lido *****; Camping Klaus ***. Included among the facilities where animals may be accommodated are rental houses, hotels and B & B’s as well as campgrounds.
Another thing to bear in mind are the public transport conditions, especially if you have to go on a trip to Venice or another island in the lagoon and you have to use a water vehicle. On board an ACTV vehicle, a maximum of one animal per passenger is allowed free transport, provided that dogs are muzzled and on a leash. Other small animals (cats, birds, etc.) must be kept inside suitable containers. The transport of these animals (except guide-dogs for the blind) however may be limited or excluded, at the discretion of the personnel in charge, when a vehicle is particularly crowded or if the transport itself endangers the safety of the passengers. If the dogs are small in size, it is recommended to keep them in the arm.
Access for dogs on a leash and accompanied by the owner or similar is allowed in all areas open to the public and for public use, including gardens and parks, except for those areas where access is prohibited due to regulations. So be on the look-out for signs forbidding animals!
Advice
It is futile to give the usual advice regarding a supply of the mandatory pet waste bags any time one leaves the house, the availability of fresh water, or being alert for heatstroke during the hottest hours of the day. If you are at the beach and under an umbrella, your four-legged friend will also be there and if the animal is large, it is best to bring its own umbrella. Dogs should not drink salt water because it can cause regurgitation and bowel problems.
